The Rock Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland opened the doors to it’s new library and archives on Jan 17th, which will provide fans and scholars alike access to historic tidbits relating to the history of Rock music. Rock treasures include everything from personal letters from Mick Jagger, Madonna and Aretha Franklin, a handwritten song list for a concert by Elvis Presley, to video of the Rolling Stones 1981-1982 tour.
The collection, which is housed in four-story, $12 million dollar building, includes more than 3,500 books, 1,400 audio recordings and 270 videos. The Library also houses many photos, albums and covers, oral histories, scrapbooks and more for the public’s viewing pleasure from top artists in the history of rock. Rihanna announced that she and Coldplay, who recently collaborated on “Princess of China” from ColdPlay’s new Mylo Xyloto album, would be playing together on stage during this years annual Grammy Awards. This year marks the e 54th annual Grammy Awards, scheduled for Februrary 12th, and will mark the first time Rihanna and Coldplay perform together live.

The Rock music genre is slipping, and Pop music has come to take it’s place.
Thanks to artists such as Lady Gaga and Adele, the Pop Music genre has surpassed the Rock Music genre for sales in 2011. In 2011 alone, Lady Gaga brought in an astounding $90 million in earnings, and Adele has covered the billboards with hit albums 21 at #1 and 19 at #4. Big hitting album sales such as this have pushed Pop music forward in the charts covering one third of the market (33.6%), up almost 3% from 2010 performance. It looks like 2012 will be a big year for country star Taylor Swift, whom, according to BroadwayWorld, has recently been offered the role of Eponine in Les Miserables.
While there has been no word just yet if Taylor has accepted the role in the upcoming film adaption, if she chooses to she will be joining talent which includes Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Tony-winner Eddie Redmayne as Marius. Looks like The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (also known as Coachella or the Coachella Festival) is going big this year. If the usual multi-day event wasn’t enough for fans, Coachella 2012 will span two weekends (13-15) and (20-22) with a myriad of musicians (120+) scheduled to play at the event. Coachella Festival passes go on sale this Friday, January 13th at 10am PST and cost $285 each.
The Coachella festival, originally started in 1999, is traditionally held during the third or fourth weekend at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Claifornia. Since Indio is located in the California Desert, concertgoers will get hit with temperatures rising above 100°F during the day, which then drop dramatically once the sun sets. Sam Rivers, honored in 2010 by the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, has died of Pneumonia at the age of 88.
Sam Rivers was a talented Jazz musician who developed an interest in music at an early age, thanks in part to his family’s deep involvement in music. Sam’s father was a gospel musician, was a former member of the Fisk Jubilee Singers and had sung with the Silverstone Quartet. And as luck would have it, his mother, grandmother, and two sisters were also musicians. By his 30′s, Sam Rivers was capable of playing a wide variety of jazz instruments, including: soprano and tenor saxophones, clarinet, flute, harmonica, and piano.

Not one to sit still, Sean Combs who is better known as Diddy (P-Diddy / Puff Daddy), sat down in a interview with AdWeek to discuss Branding, Liquor, Mousetraps and his future plans.
As a businessman, Diddy has made his millions off music, TV, film, clothing and fragrances. So what’s this multi-talented, jack of all trades have in store next?
In Diddy’s latest Ciroe vodka ad, he’s set the theme to a classic Sinatra tune,”Luck Be a Lady”. Combs explains how the idea came about.
“The spot that put Ciroc on the map was the first partnership we did with the Sinatra estate four years ago. I did a huge out-of-the-box buy on CNN, and I knew there would be a lot of traffic because Obama was running for president. And sales went through the roof. It was one of the most impactful ad campaigns in the spirit’s history. Also, for years, people have called me the black Sinatra. So that’s where the whole collaboration came from.”
