Queen of Pop, Whitney Houston, dies at 48

The most awarded female artist of all time, Whitney Houston, passed away Saturday, February 11th, 2012.

“She was underwater and apparently unconscious,” the Beverly Hills Police Department said in their initial statement. As the investigation continued, it became clear that Whitney did not die from drowning but instead from an overdose of Xanax and other prescription medications mixed with alcohol. Coroner officials indicated that the water in her lungs was not substantial enough to conclude that she drowned. madonna small Madonna Signs Three Album Deal with Universal/Interscope The cover girl is back & working on new material with a new label.

Madonna recently signed a three album deal with Universal Music Group’s Interscope for $3 million. The new contract is in addition to her ongoing 10 year contract with Live Nation (which she signed in 2007; potentially worth as much as $100 million). Madonna joins existing Interscope artists including Lady Gaga, P Diddy and 50 Cent.

Live Nation CEO Irving Azoff originally mentioned in Feburary that a marger could happen for the star sometime later in the year. ”Live Nation, prior to the merger, entered into some of these all-rights deals, so there are certain artists, Madonna being one of them, that there is a recorded-music strategy,” Azoff said. “Once she gets the album recorded, we’ll sit down with her and her manager, Guy Oseary, and figure out what’s best for the record. It has to start with the music.”

Britney Spears’ album Femme Fatale is a saucy but dark LP that has everything to do with club and dance music. One of the less talked about songs, which holds the essence of the whole album in it is the fiery self explanatory song ‘Gasoline,’- a Claude Kelly written song. According to Kelly, he wrote this song while focusing on the sexiest moments of Britney’s career.

Talking in an interview with MTV, Kelly said that when he was writing the song, the theme he wanted to emulate was that of the one displayed in previous Britney songs such as ‘Toxic,’ ‘Slave 4 U’ and ‘Boys.’ he said that Britney in the physically hot club with guys around her is a very popular theme and he thought that revisiting it once more would be a lot of fun. In a lengthy Twitter post, Britney shared, “I would describe it as moody, edgy pop with A LOT of energy. I co-wrote a couple of songs. I think it’s some of the best work I have ever done. There are a few mid-tempos that could be considered ballads. I have a lot of history with #MaxMartin and @TheDoctorLuke so it’s always fun to collaborate with them. They make such incredible music. I’m so excited and I can’t wait for you guys to hear it. I think its some of the best work I have ever done!”

She then went on to thanks her dedicated fan base for sticking with here through all the ups and downs of her career. “Just want to say that I really love you guys and can’t thank you enough for the support throughout my entire career,” Britney tweeted.
