There is no doubt that Lady Gaga’s ‘Edge of Glory’ , which was released last week, is a pure pop song. And while the fans may still be getting used to it, the song’s co-producer Fernando Garibay has told the media that he is surprised that the track has been released by Gaga and her team.
Garibay said that while the album’s title track ‘Born This Way’ was a statement song, ‘Edge of Glory’ is a very personal song, in which the singer has put a lot of heart and soul. Speaking in an interview with MTV, he remarked, “It is very personal and very real; it’s a real moment.” The co-producer’s other half on the production front of the song was DJ White Shadow, who had earlier commented that Gaga’s vocal delivery on ‘Edge of Glory’ was very impressive. “This song’s had room for her too … this is her natural tone. The vocal was one take. The whole thing from top to bottom was her, just backstage singing it all the way through,” he had said in a separate sit-down before the song’s release.
Gaga also requested the producers to add a heartbeat in the song’s music, so Garibay made sure that the song sounded like Gaga’s trying to find her acceptance in the bridge. Garibay admired Gaga’s decision to let the song maintain its original form on the radio and regarded it as a very bold move, which is rarely seen in the modern music. He said that they improvised on the song and Gaga totally let her emotions work their magic on the track.
He further explained, “She wanted to put sax on it … Her references were E Street Band and Bruce Springsteen, so the isolation of what the sax represents in the music dichotomy, what it represents in the whole spectrum of music.” It should be noted that the saxophone part was actually played by one of the E Street members Clarence Clemmons.
And that is how they were able to pack Gaga’s emotions in the song. He recalled that Gaga used to tell them there are no boundaries for creativity with her and they can go as deep as they want. Garibay said that Gaga’s soft side is almost an intense as her on-stage perfectionist persona.
Only the mention of a music video for Edge of Glory was enough to get Garibay excited and he concluded the interview by saying that it will be an epic experience and the whole team is looking forward for Gaga to start working on it.DJ White Shadow, Fernando Garibay, Lady Gaga, pop
