The Austin City Limits music festival, also known as ACL, takes place in Austin, TX annually. It is a three day music festival that has a different headliner every night. Last year the headliner of the whole festival was Pearl Jam. ACL announced that wristbands for the event are on sale now and ready to be purchased. The question is: do you buy now without knowing the lineup, or do you wait and risk the wristbands being sold out? A lot of people are reluctant to buy now because they have not released the line up for the three days of nonstop music fun.
Waiting to buy your wristband for the release of the line up can be beneficial for you unless they sell out. The wristbands are expensive, and if you do not like the line up you most likely will not want to spend the money. The three day passes range in price depending on when you buy them. If you buy early they are $145 and if you buy late they are $185. According the official ACL website, the three day wristbands are already sold out. That means you are still eligible to buy day passes or a VIP wristband, prices unknown. If you bought your wristband, you can find out what the lineup will be on May 18th.
Once the lineup is released, you can then start to do your research on the different bands and the headliners for each night. There will most likely be bands that you have heard of, such as Pearl Jam and Kings of Leon that performed last year, and other bands that you are unfamiliar with. There are eight stages and over 130 bands to experience. A lot of bands have websites with MP3 files so you can download their music to preview. Others may have their music being played on Internet or traditional radio stations.
If you find a band on the lineup that sounds good, you can listen to their online music and preview their sound and style. You may even find that they are being played on a genre specific music channel on the Internet. Knowing the bands that are performing can make your ACL experience more fun because you will not be wandering around the huge venue finding a stage with a good performer. If you prefer to not research some of the bands before hand on the Internet, you will still have a great time at ACL. Some people prefer to go in without knowing what they will find and get excited when they discover a new band.
You can prepare for other music festivals around the country the same way. Researching bands on the Internet and utilizing online music channels will help you discover and broaden your taste for really good music.
